Babos and Hlavackova: «This victory is a good sign for Singapore»

The women’s doubles final was held on Friday, October 20, at the Olympiysky stadium. The top seeds Timea Babos (Hungary)/Andrea Hlavackova (Czech Republic) defeated their opponentsNicole Melichar (USA) and Anna Smith (GB) in the champion’s tie-break – 6:2, 3:6, 10-3. The match lasted 1h 5m. The duo Timea/Andrea had more points won at the return statistics: 24-15.

Aleksey Selivanenko, vice-president of the Russian Tennis Federation and director of the women's tournament «VTB Kremlin Cup»; Tony Cho, WTA supervisor; Anna Merkulova, Head of Rado Marketing in Russia participated in the official award ceremony held after the match.

Anna Smith and Nicole Melichar who lost in today’s match thanked the fans for coming and wished good luck to their opponents at the tournament in Singapore tournament. «We spent a great week and played well. I want to thank everyone who organized that tournament, every partner and participant. I liked the food here, especially the pancakes», – said Nicole. Her partner Anna added that the she also would like to play well in Moscow next year, too.

The champions Babos and Hlavackova also began their speech by thanking the crowd and the fans. «It’s a pure joy to perform in front of all of you! Andrea joined her partner’s speech: «Thanks to everyone, and especially my husband who supported me in this year so much. Thanks to the tournament sponsors, too –especially to Rado I really wanted that clock! ».

Aleksey Selivanenko » congratulated the champions and finalists of the doubles event n behalf of «VTB Kremlin Cup: «We are especially pleased because of the fact, that those who reached the finals also qualified for Zhuhai and Singapore tournaments. The Hungarian Timea Babos and the Czech Andrea Hlavackova won the title of «VTB Kremlin Cup» in doubles 6:2, 3:6, 10:3. After the win they answered several questions.

Congratulation, what does this victory mean to you? Andrea Hlavackova :It’s a great way to finish the season and go to Singapore with a title. We’ve had some tough matches here, especially the first round but we survived it. And now we really played well in the finals, and we enjoyed it a lot. That’s a good feeling to go to Singapore with. Timea Babos: Yes, when you get a throphy it’s always a nice feeling, we’ve had some difficult moments during the week. But the most important is to claim the victory. This tournament is a good sign for Singapore.

Why are you so successful in doubles? Do you complement each other and have a perfect mutual understanding? Andrea Hlavackova : Sure, our games complement each other. It’s also the result of the work that we put in during the season, moreover we got used to each other. Now we play as a real team.

You are already in WTA Finals, how do you access your chances? Timea Babos: We are going to be seeded, so we will go there and we will definitely try to win it. This is the last tournament of the season. We are prepared very well so we will fight on court as we always do and we will see what happens.
