Daniil, you have played three different sets, how could you comment on them?

All in all, as I said before, I am not at my 100 %. But it doesn’t matter I am in a bad shape - maybe I am at 90 % of my shape. I had lots of downs during the match, and that is not good. In the first set I lost my serve and he turned the tide and I lost him in 20 mins. Then I understood I have to compose myself and the only chance I had was to serve well as I couldn’t do better on my return as I was a little bit slow and I was not concentrated enough. I tried to play every point and use every single chance and finally I won the second set. But in the third… when the score was 1/0 … If you play like this, you lose in an ATP semifinals.

Either you or Khachanov are one of the candidates to break through to the world’s tennis elite. What is still missing in your game to get into Top10?

Experience and consistency in my results. If I manage to get on top of the game I have been showing over the last two months I can rise in my rankings. To be honest, there are lots of players who could be higher in their rankings, but the number is limited as there are only 10 spots in the Top10, so experience and luck are essential. I will just keep on going.

Did you analyze why you do so well in Moscow, because reaching the semis is a good result?

This is what makes it funny. If I had gotten into the semis before America, I would be happy but this semifinals didn’t earn me any points, nothing. Of course, I’d like to play better and go further on the tournament. As to playing in Moscow… The crowd helped both of us and was quite fair – I’d say 50/50.

Overall, you’ve had an amazing season. What are your goals for the next season? And for the ending of this season, too?

My main goal is to try to win every match, because that is the only way to win tournaments and earn points. And when I don’t play matches, I have to practice a lot, try to improve, increase my average level of the game, because it’s impossible to play at the maximum of your abilities all the time. Here (in Moscow) I played not at my full strength, but maybe, if my average level were higher, I would have been able to win today.

You wished Karen good luck in the finals. What do you think his chances are against Mannarino?

He beat Mannarino two or three times, if I'm not mistaken, plus Mannarino did not win a single final - probably out of the five he played lately. Therefore, I think that the chances are great, but you never know - this is a final, the chances are pretty much even. But I think he still has good chances to win.

Will you stay to support your friend?

I need to play in Basel on Tuesday, I have to fly out tomorrow morning. I would love to stay.

What do you think about the tournament moving to a new place?

Yes, of course I did not manage to play so much here, it seems like three years only. But this is a good arena, a good tournament. I hope that the new one won’t be worse.

Where will you spend your vacation, and how intense your physical load will be?

I have not decided yet where to spend my vacation, but I will go to the seaside - to a hot country, just to lie for a week and do nothing, and, as you said, just to do some general fitness but I will take it easy so that I don’t have to recover for a month from my vacation.
