What are your feelings now that reached the finals of the anniversary VTB Kremlin Cup 2019?

I'm in the finals. Of course, I am very happy. I didn’t even want to discuss the game with the coach. The match was very good, and I hope the level of tennis was interesting and the crowd liked it.

It seems that you like to play in Moscow, and you just prolong the pleasure, is that so?

VTB Kremlin Cup is a special tournament for me. Of course, I like to play Grand Slams... But, probably, everything just fits in at this tournament: I won many matches after coming from behind. Plus, it’s Moscow, there is the home crowd and it’s the last tournament of the season. I would like to give it all on the court and play well, finish on a good note.

Yesterday you ended the match quite late. How do you prepare in such tough conditions?

The sleep was a little shorter today. I went to bed very late. Late to finish, plus all recovery procedures. There was a lack of sleep, especially today. I really like to sleep. But, in spite of everything, I wanted to win.

Did your opponent surprise you with something? During the match, were you mad at yourself or at her?

Both. I can’t say that she surprised me. She impressed. I saw how she plays. I watched her games. But when you step on court against an opponent it is always a different feeling compared to when you watch. Especially on this surface: the bounce is low, and she plays low, with slices. She has been playing awesome in the summer, she serves well and has an excellent reaction. She has great potential. It was very difficult for me today. So I was angry with her too (laughter).

How do you like the crowd support today?

The audience is good, like all days. I love it. It should be noted that from the first day there are a lot of people in the stands. It's nice to be supported. The stadium is amazing. In the “Olympiyskiy” it was sometimes dark, like in a casino. Now it is much better with such lighting.

You will play against Bencic in the finals of the VTB Kremlin Cup anniversary tournament. Today Belinda qualified for the WTA Final tournament. What can you say about your opponent?

If tomorrow something were at stake for her, maybe she would be nervous, but now she will step on court relaxed tomorrow.

Maybe just catch her off guard?

For starters, I would get myself new legs (laughter). Mines somehow do not want to move. In fact, a final is a final. Here I am by no means looking for easy ways. I don’t think about this - who qualified and who didn’t for Shenzhen. In the finals, we fight for the trophy, we both want to win. We will do our best, I will play from the first to the last point.

At the twenty-fifth VTB Kremlin Cup Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won the title. Now it’s the thirtieth anniversary tournament - and Anastasia reached the finals again. What has changed in Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in five years?

Yes, it seems to me that only jubilee tournaments are interesting to play. For non-anniversary one a quarterfinal is enough (laughter). But at an anniversary tournament I am really focused (laughter). In fact, I never think about it at all. Last year I played and fought. Every year I want to always do well at the VTB Kremlin Cup. This year I am pleased to reach the finals. But we must remember that tomorrow there is yet another match!
