On October 19, a press conference with Aslan Karatsev was held at the Irina Viner-Usmanova Palace of Gymnastics. He spoke to the media about his memories from the «VTB Kremlin Cup», assessed the results he showed during this season and his physical and mental conditions.

Aslan, what went wrong in the doubles finals in Indian Wells? Andrey Rublev said that emotions got the better of him. Why did you lose?

I think that opponents played very well in the first set our, we didn't have too many chances. In the second set, we broke them twice, but didn't manage to hold serve properly. There were some points where I had to play differently, I made some unforced errors. These little things didn’t work for us. 2-3 points decided upon the outcome of the match.

Rublev assessed positively the sheer fact that a new strong pair was born in Russia – Rublev-Karatsev . He even paid you a compliment, saying that among all Russian tennis players you are the best doubles player. How would you comment on this?

Even at the beginning of the year it was clear that we were playing well together. We played in Doha and never dropped a set. This - despite the fact that we played together for the first time. I think if we played a couple of more tournaments after Doha, there would be a different result, but I guess there was an agreement (made by Andrey Rublev) with Karen Khachanov for them to play together.

How would you assess the whole season, which started for you on a very positive note?

It's a very good season. At the beginning of the year I made it to Australian Open semifinals, then I won my maiden ATP title in Dubai. In my opinion, I showed some very good tennis there. And especially in Belgrade where I beat Novak Djokovic in the semis. That is when I certainly showed very good tennis.

Your results slightly went down in the second part of the season. Some say the reason for this is that your rivals are already used to you. Previously, you were an unknown quantity for them, but now they are already getting ready for a match against Karatsev specifically. How do you explain this slight drop in results?

There are always ups and downs. This is tennis and, of course, everyone is trying to keep up their level at the maximum. The defeats are part of the game.

What are your thoughts on the Russian team at the Davis Cup? What are your ambitions ahead of the tournament?

I think we have a very strong team, and we have every chance of winning it. We need to show our maximum at this tournament, and, of course, prepare for it as well as possible.

Right now there is a match played by Miomir Kecmanovic and Egor Gerasimov (Gerasimov won it). You've played both before. Do you have any preferences here?

I think there is not much difference. I played them both. The most important thing is to get ready. I just arrived from America yesterday and it is important to physically and mentally prepare for Thursday.

You sure have some child memories from the «VTB Kremlin Cup». Describe them.

I was here with my father when I was 10 years old. Marat Safin played here with Yevgeny Kafelnikov. I then approached them and asked for autographs. Many years later, I began to play at the VTB Kremlin Cup myself. Many times I came off the qualifications, played in the main draw, successfully passed R1. I think this was my best result. In 2013 I lost to Dudi Sela in R2, if I'm not mistaken. I have very good impressions from the tournament. It is always very comfortable to play here. I have not yet fully seen the new venue, I have not yet had time to visit the court, but everything is very new.

What win would you call the biggest this season? Which one do you value most and are proud of?

Probably, I would single out the victory over Djokovic in Belgrade.

How are you ready mentally to get into the Top10? What do you think is still lacking for this?

I think it is important to keep up this level at which I am playing this year. We need to be more consistent at a high level.
